Hope in High Heels
Sunday, September 28th is this year's 4th annual Oakville Hope in High Heels event, in support of Halton Women's Place. Here comes the chance for our Sheridan and Oakville communities' fantastic men to strut their stuff in hot pink high heels (yes--HWP provided the shoes in all men's sizes) once again, as they help us take a stand--quite literally--against violence against women.
The event starts at 10:30am, outside the Oakville Public Library, with speeches by community leaders. The walk takes about 20 minutes, and participants get to enjoy free food care of The Works, music, prizes, optional professional massages and giveaways following the event. Registration is now open via the HWP site, at http://www.gifttool.com/athon/AthonDetails?ID=85&AID=2802 and you can register as an individual, or as part of a team.
Halton Women's Place takes in 1000s of women and their dependants each year, as they are fleeing abuse and trying to establish new lives. The shelter also offers ongoing psychological and legal counselling to these women and children--but it relies on the support of wonderful community members to function.
The men will walk in heels--but ladies, please come help cheer the gents in their progress!
